The Great 80's Party is Tomorrow

The City of Katy has planned a multitude of great events this year and all will be hosted at the newly renovated Historic Town Square that is now approaching $12 million in work. Everyone can enjoy it this Saturday. Frizz out your hair, wear those bright colors and get ready rock out at the City of Katy’s Great 80’s Party! The party is tomorrow, Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. in Katy’s Historic Town Square.

This party is to celebrate 80 years of the incorporation of the City of Katy. There will be photobooths, an LED dance floor, an arcade, food trucks, and more fun. Live music will be brought by Mr. Wonderful and No Label Brewing Co. and the new Twins Tavern will be there.

“The events hosted on our Historic Downtown Katy Square are more than just gatherings – they are an opportunity to bring our community together,” says Kaci Maris, City of Katy Tourism and Marketing Event Coordinator. “From young to old, families to singles, we design these events with everyone in mind, ensuring they’re free, welcoming, and accessible to all.”

"Katy’s Historic Town Square is the heart of our community—a place where our small-town charm meets vibrant events that bring people together,” says City of Katy Mayor William “Dusty” Thiele. “From celebrating local artisans at The Katy Exchange to honoring our heroes and supporting meaningful causes, these gatherings reflect the spirit of Katy. We take great pride in preserving our history while creating new traditions that welcome families, visitors, and businesses alike. Whether it’s experiencing our new trolley, enjoying a festival, or supporting a local nonprofit, these moments are what make Katy—Katy!"”

Award-Winning Events

The City of Katy just won another award for their Taylor Swift Ultimate Karaoke Night. The city won both the East Region Innovative Program Award and the Lone Star Programming Achievement Award. These coveted awards are granted annually to cities that demonstrate outstanding efforts and innovation in parks and recreation. The Taylor Swift Ultimate Karaoke Night, which attracted a large crowd and delighted fans of all ages, was selected for its creativity and impact.

The city is bringing back the highly successful event with this year’s Taylor Swift ERAS 2.0 event on April 5, 2025.

The City of Katy has many great programs planned for this year.

“It’s incredible to watch families, friends, and neighbors enjoy our beautiful town square, whether they’re taking photos, making memories, or discovering the unique shops and restaurants,” says Maris. “These events not only highlight the rich history of our city but also support our local businesses by showcasing everything that makes Katy great.”

Introducing the New Katy Exchange

The new Katy Exchange, which will include over 90 vendors, debuts in the Historic Town Square this March 15, 2025 with monthly dates of April 19, May 17, August 16, November 15, and December 6. This new series of events are a way to get people to come downtown and what Katy has.

On the inaugural event Katy families can experience the new Trolley service that will offer free rides from the downtown square to popular local attractions. These attractions include the Heritage Society homes, VFW Museum, and the Johnny Nelson Heritage Museum. Guests will also get a sneak peek at the newly designed Visitors Center during its soft opening.

As Katy continues to grow, it’s events like this that bring community together to keep that small-town feel.

“We love seeing the connections made, the kids playing, and the smiles that come from shared experiences, and we look forward to welcoming even more people to be a part of these special moments,” says Maris. “Katy’s Historic Downtown is a place to come together, create memories, and celebrate the heart of our city.”
