Katy Graduation Ceremonies Held at Legacy Stadium
Caps and gowns will replace football gear at Katy’s Legacy Stadium starting tonight when Taylor High School kicks off the first of the eight high schools to graduate.
A challenging Year
“I’m proud of all of our graduates,” says Katy ISD Board of Trustee Dawn Champagne. “This is the first step to all the future successes in their lives and their success is essential to all of our futures. Good luck to all Katy ISD high school graduates!”
These graduating seniors have experienced virtual school, a global pandemic, and don’t forget Hurricane Harvey.
“This year has been different,” says graduating Katy senior Jimmy Lucia. “I feel like a lot of students have missed out on opportunities because of COVID such as myself.”
Lucia will study Fire Science at Lone Star Community College this Fall.
Starting tonight and going through next Thursday, each Katy high school will have their turn to celebrate their senior class. Weather is a concern on the forecast, especially after many are still reliving the lightning show from the other night. In the event of inclement weather, the commencement ceremony would be rescheduled for the following morning, with an 8:00 a.m. start time at Legacy Stadium.

Katy ISD's latest addition, Jordan High School, which opened this past fall, will not graduate their first senior class until May of 2023. Since the 2021 Bond Package passed in this month's general election, the District was approved for its proposed news schools. One will be another high school bringing the District to an even ten.
At this week’s Board of Trustee meeting, the board voted unanimously for approval to award a contract for design services for the construction of high school #10.
