This is no joke! The Katy ISD Board of Trustees have amended this year’s academic calendar to give staff along with the students off the Monday after Easter. This additional spring holiday was also approved for the next two academic years.

At last night’s regularly scheduled Katy ISD School Board Meeting the desire to grant staff some extra time off was discussed and voted on. The Trustees approved the additional holiday on April 21, 2025, which is the Monday after Easter. This additional holiday will make Easter weekend a four-day weekend for students and staff.
"We are so happy to give our hard working teachers and support staff a day off the Monday after Easter so they can enjoy time with their students who were already scheduled off," says Katy ISD Trustee Rebecca Fox.
The Trustees also voted and approved the additional spring holiday in April for the 2024-2025, 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 school years.
This update is contingent on the District not exceeding two bad weather days.
“Katy ISD is meticulous in complying with the requirement for operational minutes to ensure that students have the instructional time they need to thrive,” says Sherri Ashorn, Director of Student Affairs in Katy ISD. “Because of this fastidiousness, and if the weather cooperates, the District can now offer staff an extra spring holiday.”
Katy ISD’s Board policy mandates a minimum of 75,600 operational minutes each school year. With this in mind, the existing Board-approved calendars have already built in enough minutes to account for the possibility of two bad weather days. The newly approved amendments pave the way for a bonus spring holiday, typically falling around Easter weekend, for staff — provided the district stays within the two bad weather day limit.
"This four day weekend during the very busy spring semester gives employees a chance to take a deep breath, have a mental and physical break, and come back to finish the school year strong and determined," says Fox. "We know the incredibly strong and steady reputation of Katy ISD is because of their dedication and commitment to student success and we are deeply grateful for each one of our staff."
This change adds flexibility and a bit of springtime relief for Katy ISD staff, while ensuring that instructional time remains on track.
