When a Katy baby decided to make his debut into this world quicker than planned, local officers were on hand to help in the rush to the hospital. The family is thankful for the help and kindness they found during a very frantic life moment they will never forget.

A Katy family is thankful for the help of two Fulshear Police Officers who aided them on the road as they rushed to the hospital to have their baby. Kinsey and Cory Cook were expecting their third baby, so they thought they knew exactly what to expect in a delivery. Wrong! Baby Jack had other plans.

At 37 weeks, Kinsey thought a bath would ease her pain late night on January 25, 2025. “I still didn’t think I was having this baby, this wasn’t my plan,” says Kinsey, who had two children come perfectly on time at 40 weeks. “We had no hospital bag packed, no car seat in the car yet, so in between these seemingly progressive contractions I threw a couple things in a bag.”

The Cooks called a neighbor to sit with their other two children while waiting on grandma, then they were off to the hospital. Cory did call 911 as they were concerned at how quickly Jack was coming. Kinsey did hemorrhage with previous deliveries so she was very concerned.

“I was in so much pain at this point, laying on my side with my legs crossed and engaged to try to make sure our baby boy wasn’t going anywhere until we made it to the hospital,” says Kinsey.

Baby Jack was coming, and when cruising through downtown Fulshear the Cooks saw siren lights come on behind them.

Initially I was telling my husband ‘don’t you dare pull this car over,’ I know that’s bad, but I was just in so much pain I thought if we stopped at all that was it,” describes Kinsey. “But once he did pull over and the cops yelled out follow us and jumped in front of us it gave me a crazy sense of peace.”

Cory pulled over and Sergeant Brandon Moseley and Officer Kyle Simpson jumped into action to help and became crucial players in Jack’s birth story.

“They didn’t even come all the way to the car door before recognizing that I was in labor and they jumped right into action, stating ‘follow us, we got you,’” recalls Kinsey.

“Helping someone in a moment of need is rewarding but knowing that your actions can positively impact an entire family for years to come is truly special,” says Officer Simpson. “It’s a privilege to serve others in such a meaningful way.”

They escorted the Cooks to the ER entrance at Memorial Hermann Katy where a stretcher was waiting with a medical team. Within minutes of arrival, and with no medicine, Jack Cook was born healthy.

“I credit so much of his safe arrival to the calm levelheaded mind of my husband with a heavy foot and the fast thinking of the amazing Fulshear Police Department, whom in a split second jumped into action to help us in a time of desperate need,” says Kinsey. “If it was not for Fulshear P.D. providing that sense of hope and safety I truly believe we would have had our baby right there on Woods Rd.”

Kinsey Davidson Cook grew up in Katy and graduated from Taylor High School in 2007. She left for college and graduate school but returned to raise her family. She and Cory Cook have been married for six years and have two other children; Breck (age 3) and Brennin (age 2.)

The Cooks, who live in Fulbrook, got to meet and thank the officers who helped them that night.

“We just wanted to shake their hands, hug them, and thank them for all they do and did to help us that night,” says Kinsey. “They were so kind, genuine, and caring. They held Jack, we talked about their perspective of what happened that night and were able to get a picture that we will keep for a lifetime. Such wonderful officers and such an incredible blessing to our story.”

Kinsey recalls how scared she was that night and that the officers truly felt like guardian angels.

“In this profession, you never know what you will encounter. When we were faced with a mother about to give birth, it was absolutely vital to use the tools and training we had to provide her and her unborn child with immediate medical care,” says Sergeant Brandon Moseley. “It’s a decision we were proud to make—one that reflects the commitment citizens expect from those sworn to help and protect them.”
