Barnes and Noble to Take Over Party City’s Former Katy Space

Barnes & Noble will take over the former Party City space off of South Fry Road. The location will feature a redesign of the popular bookstore that will stray from their traditional big store feel and introduce a smaller and more community oriented experience. The store should open early next year.

Book loving Katy residents can rejoice in knowing that Barnes & Noble is coming to Katy early 2026. The largest retail bookseller in the U.S. will take over the former Party City space at 435 South Fry Road.
 The company will renovate and build-out the 21,883-square foot space that the party supplies store once occupied. The renovation is scheduled to wrap by February 2026. The store should open shortly after that.

Physical stores continue to struggle in the current climate of online shopping. The demise of the Katy Party City store that folded as result of their nationwide closure and liquidation is proof to the struggle. Yet the Greater Houston area continues to be a good location for physical Barnes & Noble brick and mortar stores.

The new Katy location will join several stores, including locations in Copperfield, Town & Country Village, River Oaks, The Woodlands, and Webster.

Barnes & Noble also runs an online bookstore and according to their website, has Barnes & Noble College, which serves over 700 university and college campuses.

Barnes & Noble is moving away from their typical big stores and focusing on a new design strategy that is less traditional from their earlier stores and more community-oriented to allow a more intimate atmosphere for book lovers. There will also be an expanded children’s and young adult sections and books tailored for the local community.

As the Katy continues to grow, new businesses and entertainment venues are opening yet many are coming to the rapidly expanding northwest portion of the city. This new brick-and-mortar bookstore experience is exciting and will bring retail experience that is also full of entertainment near the Nottingham and Kelliwood communities. Â
