Thanksgiving Shopping in Katy: Store Openings and Closings

In the past few years, retail stores have begun opening on Thanksgiving day instead of just for "Black Friday" sales. A recent study by www.bestblackfriday.com revealed that 57% of people don't support stores opening on Thanksgiving Day. In addition, store sales have begun to lag as online sales were up 11.5% during the 2016 holiday shopping season.

BOYCOTT OR BUY EARLY?

While many applaud this the no-shopping on Thanksgiving trend, others love the thrill and excitement of snatching up items on their holiday list for a bargain prices, a day before the black Friday sales. Stores generally are not without workers as the rate of pay on a federal holiday is generally two times the regular hourly wage ($7.25 in Texas). An hourly holiday rate of $14.50 is very appealing for the minimum wage worker. To those that are planning their holiday sales buys on Thanksgiving, below are hours for our local Katy retailers in addition to stores that will not open

OPEN ON THANKSGIVING

Bass Pro: 8am - 6pm

Best Buy: 5pm - 1am

Big Lots: 7am - midnight

Dick's Sporting Goods: 6pm - 2am

Five Below: 6pm - 1am

Game Stop: 4pm - 10pm

JCPenney: 2pm - 10pm

Katy Mills: 6pm - 1am (select stores will be open...please call a store directly for hours)

Kohl's: opens at 5pm

Michaels: 6pm - midnight (5pm for reward members)

Sears: 6pm - midnight

Target: 6pm - midnight

Toy's R Us: 5pm - 11pm

ULTA: 6pm - 2am

Walmart: regular hours (Black Friday sales begin at 6pm)
