Shots were fired into a Katy home at the 1900 block of Emerald Green, the Oaks of Green Trails Subdivision around 10 p.m. Sunday January 27. No one was harmed but this is the second time this residence has experienced gunfire and authorities are now working with investigators to determine if the incidents are racially motivated. No arrests have been made.

Constables Working with the FBI

The shooting on Sunday came from behind from the greenbelt by Mason Creek. The shooters used a ladder to stand up and fire over the fence. Authorities have shared pictures of the evidence in hopes that someone can shed some light on this case. "We're working very closely with the FBI. We're also working with the Harris County Sheriff's Office," said Constable Ted Heap, Precinct 5, last night in a statement to the public. "We're taking the evidence from all these cases trying to see if we can tie them together."

The family has four children, who were all reported home at the time of Sunday's shooting. The same house on Emerald Green experienced a drive by shooting where shots were fired at the front of the house on Christmas Day, as seen in the slideshow above.

Second Shooting

Constable Heap also released video of the Christmas Day drive-by shooting at the same address. At approximately 7 p.m. that evening, an occupant in the passenger seat of a dark sports car fired several shots at this residence. No one was hurt in this incident either.

Investigating Possible Hate Crime

At this time the shootings have not been labeled as a hate crime but it is something that authorities are looking closely into. The victims are Muslim Americans. In addition, investigators are looking into whether these attacks are related to a recent theft from the victim's garage and a drive-by shooting at a nearby mosque.

"This particular resident has had twice shots fired at it. Once from the front and once from behind," says Constable Heap. "Does it concern me? Absolutely."

Pattison Elementary Taking Precautions

Pattison Elementary off of Stonelodge is blocks away from the incident but as no arrests have been made the district and school are taking precautions to ensure the safety of their students.

Here is the Elementary School's statement:

Dear Pattison Elementary (PE) Parents/Guardians and Staff,

This message is to inform you that last night the Harris County Precinct 5 Constables Office was called out to the 1900 block of Emerald Green Drive, after shots were reported from a bayou area.

Even though the incident is several blocks away from Pattison Elementary School, the Katy ISD Police Department has been in communication with this law enforcement agency, since no arrests have been made. An immediate and extensive search, which included aerial surveillance, of the area took place following the incident.

It’s believed the suspect(s) are no longer in the area but Precinct 5 Constables, as well as Katy ISD Officers, continue to monitor the area.

If you have any questions about this incident, please do not hesitate to contact the campus. Thank you for your patience and continued support.

Debbie Barker
