Around 10:00 a.m. this morning, October 23, 2023, a grandmother was walking her Golden Retriever and pushing her grandchild’s stroller along Mason Creek. The stroller got away from her when she stopped to pick up after the dog resulting in a scary incident but a successful rescue.

At Mason Creek Near Shillington

The incident took place at Mason Creek Trails near Park Lane and Shillington Drive. A grandmother was walking her grandchild and Golden Retriever when the stroller got away from her after she stopped to pick up after her dog.

"We are happy that this incident wasn't much worse," says says Jason Tharp, Battalion Chief of Community Risk Reduction & PIO HCESD48. "With the rain expected this week, we know the water level could have been much higher."

Both the grandmother and the dog followed the stroller into the creek along with a witness who had been jogging nearby. The strolled descended about 10 feet into the bayou.

"We would also like to thank the witness that jumped into action ti save the 2 year old," says Tharp.

According to Harris County ESD 48, fire crews were able to extricate them with a ground ladder and EMS assessed the patients at the scene. Only minor injuries were reported.
