"Most people knew him as Graeme Bone or Little Brother. He had the most infectious smile and giant brown eyes you could ever see. His voice was pure innocence. He was so smart. He loved everything that his big brother had," remembers his mother, Stephanie McDaniel on the Graeme's Superheroes Facebook page.
Nothing will ever replace their sweet son, but his parents and family are committed to keeping Graeme's memory alive through their foundation, which raises awareness for CHD and funds for The Children's Heart Foundation through Graeme's Superheroes and events like Graeme's Run.
Chris and Brittany Hauck attend the event every year, and Chris has known Stephanie since their freshman year at Katy High School. "We admire the strength and dedication Robby and Stephanie have shown day to day. It doesn’t ever get easier and the memory never will fade- but they still have the love in their hearts to give everyone the time of day and gratitude and patience to listen despite their own heartache," he says.
Graeme's Superheroes and the Children's Heart Foundation
In 2016 and 2017, the run helped raise just over $100,000 dollars for the Children's Heart Foundation, and the McDaniel's are actively involved in making sure the money goes to the right place. "The Children's Heart Foundation puts all of the money we raise into a Graeme McDaniel Memorial Fund, and we get to hand pick which research project we want to assign funds to. It's a pretty special event for our family."
Graeme's Run 2018
This years run will be on Saturday, February 10, 2018. The race will start at 9 a.m. at No Label Brewery in historic Katy and will include a 5K run and 1-mile walk, food trucks, live music, face painting, balloon animals, and a free pint glass and beer served to adults at the post-race party until 10:30 a.m. Jennifer Royo, co-founder and sales/marketing manager for No Label Brewery says, "We are honored and privileged to be apart of such a wonderful event. Graeme’s Run is such an amazing fundraiser in our Katy community. Stephanie and her entire family are truly amazing people and we are happy to host this event."
"We can't wait to see everyone out there. Graeme's Run has been such a blessing for our family. It's given us a way to continue to share our son while funding research to save future heart babies like him," says McDaniel.
