Special Saturdays

Special Saturdays is a chance for Katy's special needs students to come together. There will be two different events:

Saturday, March 23 10 a.m.-12 p.m. - For youth 8-11 years of age.

Saturday, April 6 10 a.m.- 12 p.m. - For youth 12-14 of age.

Both events will be held at the Arc of Katy located at 5819 Tenth Street, Suite C, Katy, TX 77493.

These events are for youth who are intellectually and developmentally disabled can get together and make friends. They can also make a craft and enjoy a snack. A parent or guardian are required to remain on the premises but there will be volunteers to spend time with the children. This will be a great opportunity for families to visit, plan, and discuss future events.

Serves Teens and Adults

The Arc of Katy was founded in 1989 and since then is a great resource and organization for individuals and families of the intellectually and developmentally disabled. They offer popular Day Programs for 18 year old and up and Summer Programs for 16 years old and up. So far they have not catered to younger children and this is an area they want to start servicing.

"We're dipping our toes in the water," explains Fred Shafer, President of the Board of Directors for the Arc of Katy. "If this is something people are interested in then we are open to exploring further programming."

"We want parents with younger students to learn about the Arc of Katy so that we may be a service to them with their future needs. This is also such a great opportunity for families to learn from each other and network about what services they are using in the community," says Shafer.

Registration for Special Saturdays is open at the Arc of Katy website. The event is $5.
