The list of Katy business affected by the pandemic continues to grow and experts warn residents this is likely just the first wave. From mom and pop businesses to retail chains, to entertainment venues, every kind of Katy business feels the impact.

Inside Katy Mills Mall, numerous food service operators have temporarily closed their locations. Additionally, several small and large retailers have posted “going out of business” signs or have already vacated. Economic strains have forced Bass Clothing, Lane Bryant, and Last Call Nieman Marcus to close soon as well.

Many Local and National Chain Restaurants Have Closed

Katy restaurants and bars have been hit particularly hard, with several of them quietly closing their doors. Other establishments struggle to hang on until they can reopen at full capacity.

JD and Jessica Merritt opened Battlehops Brewery in Old Katy, a little over a year ago. During the last six months, they’ve had to close three times due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.

“It's been a tough year as we celebrated the brewery's first anniversary during a shutdown, but support from Katy is keeping the brewery alive,” says Jessica Merritt. "As a locally-owned small business, we're in this for the long haul and will do what's necessary to stick around."

In part two of this story, Katy Magazine will share the stories of more struggling local businesses, as well as Katy business leaders, to find out what can be expected in the months to come, and what the community can do to help.

Let me tell you a secret — the crypto world is like a wild roller coaster with no safety harness. You hang on for dear life, but boy is the thrill unmatched. My next big move? I’m thinking of expanding into some newer coins that people are buzzing about. But what interests me lately is crypto mining. Mining is kind of like running a candy shop, where machines do all the work, and all you do is collect the candy! It’s fascinating how much profit can be made from the comfort of your room. I came across this interesting article that breaks down the process in easy terms for both new and experienced folks https://www.litefinance.org/blog/for-beginners/crypto-mining/. It’s definitely not as simple…
