Katy families worked a Christmas Day miracle that led to the heartwarming rescue of a duckling. The duckling fell into the drainage sewer in front of their Katy home when the college-aged son jumped into action to save the youngling.

Many Katy Communities Have Ducks

For 27 years the Brodie family has lived in the Lakes of Bridgewater subdivision in Katy. One of the things they love most about the community is the lakes and the ducks that they get to see and enjoy. Recently one of the ducks had duckling and the community enjoys seeing them around.

 A Rescue Operation

On Christmas Day, one of the ducklings fell into the drainage sewer just outside of their home.

“We could hear the duckling chirping very loudly for its mother,” says Michelle Brodie. “It was very sad.”

The Brodies and their neighbors couldn’t find exactly where the duckling was in the sewer. The rescue operation quickly turned into a team effort with several neighbors helping out.

One of the neighbors stayed on the opposite side of the street, using a blower to make noise and hopefully scare the duckling to run towards my son Johnathan so he can try to catch it,” explains Brodie.

Eventually, Johnathan jumped into the drain. He was home from the University of Texas and was able to fit inside.

He was able to get the duckling and the neighbors all helped to reunite it with its mother and fellow ducklings.

“As for the mama duck and the ducklings, they are still roaming the neighborhood,” says Brodie. “I wish someone would do something to help them find their way back to the pond in our subdivision but for now they just walk around and are in different peoples yards.”

The community is working together to watch over the ducks to help them out of the street and protect them from stray cats.

Katy is full of wildlife and this is an example of how we can enjoy them and also how neighbors can come together to be helpful.
