Fentanyl continues to be a crisis throughout the nation and Katy ISD wants local parents to understand the risks. Their next session will focus on the drug that is capable of killing with just one dose.
Katy ISD has begun their 6th season of their Legacy Parent Academy and this month’s session will focus on the fentanyl crisis. All sessions are free and open to Katy parents.
Six years ago Katy ISD launched the Legacy Parent Academy as a way to educate parents by raising awareness on various academic and wellness topics that impact students. The next session is October 25, 2023 and will focus on the current fentanyl crisis that is sweeping the nation.
“Katy ISD stays informed on pertinent topics and listens to parent requests to create impactful and relevant information sessions for the community,” says Nick Petito, General Manager of Media Relations.
Future sessions include:
November 15, 2023- School Safety
January 17, 2023- Transitioning from Elementary to Middle School and Middle School to High School
February 21, 2024- Sex Trafficking
All of the above sessions are held at Legacy Stadium from 6:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m.
“October is Fentanyl Awareness Month, and the State of Texas now requires instruction in fentanyl prevention and awareness. Katy ISD has launched a fentanyl awareness campaign that includes social media posts and a PSA video that airs at Rhodes and Legacy Stadium,” says Petito.
One Pill can Kill
The October session is “One Pill Kills: Fentanyl Awareness.” This is a problem sweeping the nation. According to the CDC, over 150 people die every day from overdoses related to synthetic opioids like fentanyl.
This month’s topic will further educate the community about this deadly drug.
