Today, Katy ISD kicks off its free grab-n-go breakfast and lunch program for children in the area. The meals are available for all students, up to 18 years of age, and can be picked up at several Katy schools from 9 - 11:30 a.m.

In response to the coronavirus outbreak, Katy ISD extended their spring break into this week. The time will allow staff and teachers time to figure out in what format instruction will continue for the remainder of the school year.

Social media posts ranged from appreciation to dismay about the school closures. Some people raised concerns about the children who would be missing out on their “free and reduced meals.” Katy ISD responded by offering free breakfast and lunch to all students in the area, up to 18 years of age.

The free meals can be found at the following schools:

The schools cannot accept volunteers because of social distancing.

Schools Closed to Minimize Crowds

The schools are closed in efforts to limit large gatherings that could increase the spread of COVID-9 (coronavirus). Katy ISD will continue to keep students and staff informed as information on virtual learning or any extended closures on their website.

If parents have any questions or concerns, they can email the district. Katy ISD also offers emergency text notifications used to share emergency and related information (school closings, weather conditions, etc.). Sign up for important alerts, click here.
