Katy ISD seeks parent and community volunteers to select new instructional materials for multiple courses for the 2022-2023 school year. Volunteers will serve on a committee to review materials being considered.
Parents, Community Members Asked to Volunteer
Katy parents and community members are being asked to volunteer to review and select Katy ISD instructional materials to be implemented in the 2022-2023 academic year.
Those interested can complete an online form where they can select which committee they are interested in serving on. The 14 committees range from topics of Elementary Health/PE, Counseling and Mental Health and much more.
"Katy ISD values the participation of parents in the selection of instructional materials and the educational process as a whole," says Nakia Coy, Director of Federal Programs & External Funding. "A committee of stakeholders ensure that district leaders, teachers and parents work together to achieve educational goals."
The District does say that not all volunteers will be selected.
This year some parents raised concerns over reading material in Katy ISD libraries. Neighboring school districts are also seeing complaints over certain reading materials.
This volunteer opportunity to review instructional material is a chance for parents and community members to be involved.
Instructional material topics to discuss include:
Elementary Courses
Health / PE
Secondary Courses
Elements of Data Science KAP
AP Comparative Government and Politics
AP Human Geography
AP Physics
Health / PE
Career & Technical Education Courses
Counseling and Mental Health
Computer Science II KAP
Unity Game Development KAP

The deadline to apply to serve on a review and selection committee is December 15.
