Opening photo by Louis Barrientos Katy High softball advances to regional finals after dominating over Kingwood in a three game match-up. The Tompkins baseball season has ended after falling to Cy-Ranch regional quarterfinals.
The Tompkins falcons took on the Cy-Ranch mustangs on Thursday night at Tompkins High. After a tough fought game, the falcons fell to Cy-Ranch 9-4. Friday night Tompkins traveled to Cy-Ranch, where Cy-Ranch made a clean sweep with a final score of 7-0.
The Katy High Tigers team played three games against the Kingwood mustangs on Thursday and Friday night. They took the first game on Thursday night, 4-0. Friday night the mustangs won the first game, 12-10. In the third game Friday night, Katy came back to take game 3, 5-1.
The Tigers go into the regional finals ranking No. 1 in Texas and No. 2 nationally. They will play the Atascocita Eagles who are ranked No. 13 in Texas and No. 59 nationally.
Katy won over Atascocita in 2017 during the regional semifinals but were shut out in the regional finals by Deer Park. Katy hasn't taken home the state title since the 2014/15 season. The Keller Indians have taken home the state title the last two years in a row. Keller is still in the softball playoffs and will take on Plano West this week.
Game 1 will be played at Tompkins High on Thursday, May 24 at 6:00 pm. Game 2 will be at Summer Creek High at 6:00 pm on Friday, May 25. If tie-breaker is needed, game 3 will be played directly after game 2.
