The Katy community continues to grow, and developers work to keep up. From new master-planned communities and apartment complexes Katy ISD also makes plans to meet the growth.

Katy ISD
As newcomers flock to the Katy area, developers greet them with new developments, businesses, and schools. Two new Katy ISD schools have been announced in addition to two new elementary schools opening this fall.
The northwest quadrant continues to be the fastest growing area of Katy. This academic year, Nelson Junior High and Freeman High School opened off of Katy Hockley and Logenbaugh Road. This fall, the district will open two new elementary schools.
Boudney Elementary School will be located at 7402 Katy Hockley Cut Off Road and will continue to help relieve the growing Elyson area that continues to add enrollment pressures at Youngblood Elementary.
Meanwhile, Cross Elementary School is being built for the Sunterra South area. It is located at 900 Sunterra Shores Drive and provide enrollment relief to Faldyn and Robertson elementary schools.
“We’ve got about 300+ new neighborhoods in various stages of development,” says realtor Kerri Schultz with Keller Williams Premier. “Communities like Sunterra and Elyson are adding tons of new homes with amazing amenities—think resort-style pools, parks, and walking trails. These master-planned communities are really shaping the future of Katy.”
Growth in Waller County
Another community planned for major growth is the Grange located at Morton Road and FM 2855 in Waller County. The Grange, a 1,130-acre development by Johnson Development that launched home sales last year. The community's first phase includes 301 homesites, with plans for 2,400 homes at completion. Current home prices start in the low $400,000s.
Katy ISD has already acquired 35 acres for a junior high school and 16 acres across the street for an elementary campus along Schilpf Road. The junior high, which will be larger than the district's typical 1,400-student capacity, is expected to break ground in late 2025 or early 2026 with a planned 2028 opening.
"The size reflects our area's growth," says Ted Vierling, Katy ISD's chief operations officer. The campus will include a track and tennis court available for public use outside of school hours.
New Apartments Building in Katy
Also coming to Katy is a $33 million affordable housing development on Greenhouse Road at Park Row. These 93 rental apartments will be zoned to Taylor High School.
There is so much new growth but houses are also selling, which brings more families to our Katy community.
“The market is all about supply and demand and supply of single-family homes has been on the rise in the Houston area,” says Kristin Meijer, a realtor at Chasestone Realty. “I believe the market is showing more favorability to buyers than it has in recent years with sellers reducing their initial asking price to attract more buyers.”
The growth in both development and residents continues to bring restaurants that will benefit the community. Read our feature story on new entertainment fun coming to Katy.
