A Katy family is planning an even bigger haunted “garage” house event this Halloween after hundreds showed up last year. Even when the candy ran out, those who dared stayed the festive fear and fun.

Halloween is a big deal to the Flores family and Michael Flores knows how to bring the freights.
“I’m a big fan of the horror movie genre,” says Katy resident Michael Flores. “I like getting scared. You know it’s just a movie, so you are facing your own fear. I want to provide that feeling, fun, and anticipation.”
Last year the Flores family opened their haunted house on Halloween and advertised it on the Elyson community groups. They advertised they would be open on Halloween for three hours and were out of candy within two.
“Last year we had 100 bags of candy and were amazed at how fast it was gone,” says Flores. “The best part though was that people wanted to stay to see the haunted house even when we told them we were out of candy.”
This season visitors will see some changes. The Flores house will have 200 bags of candy. They have also added a canopy that visitors will walk through to get to the haunted house.
“Visitors will have to commit to come in,” says Flores. “They will have to ask, ‘Do I really want the candy or not?’ It’s fun to watch the kids and adults to try and decide what to do.”
Flores followed a ‘less is more’ theme for this year’s haunted house.
“I feel that is more psychological this way. People know something will jump out, but they don’t know when. It all goes back to finding the fun in that anticipation.”
How and When to Visit the Flores House
Katy residents can enjoy the Flores Haunted House (6123 Dovetail Cliff Court in Elyson) on Halloween night from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Out of respect to the neighborhood they will turn off their music and strobe lights strictly at 9:00 p.m.
It is free to go through the house. All they ask is for the community to have fun and enjoy the spooky season.
WARNING: It is not recommended for children or those who easily scare!
