Katy Family, Katy High School Color Guard Host Scary Haunted House

Katy families continue to wow the community with over the top Halloween décor and free haunted houses. This popular house will feature scare actors from Katy High School Color Guard.

Don't Miss this Spooky Haunted House

For four years now the McHenry family has hosted a community Haunted House free for Katy families to enjoy.

“We love the Halloween traditions,” says Betty McHenry. “Because we couldn't do much with Covid in2021, we thought to go all out on our display and a small haunted house. It's been growing since.

Two More Nights to Enjoy

The house has two more nights for families to enjoy this season. Tonight, October 26 and on Halloween night. The house is open from dusk until 11:00 p.m. The house called “Nightmare of Flywheel Ct.” is located at 28110 Flywheel Ct.

Katy High School Color Guard

This year the Katy High School Color Guard has helped with set up and will serve as scare actors. The McHenry’s daughter, Eve is in the Color Guard.

“Next semester they are going to compete atthe national level in Ohio,” explains McHenry. “100% of funds we collect will be for the WinterGuard season members and their trip.”

While they don’t charge for the haunted house, they do accept donations to help the Color Guard and also next year’s house.

“We've never really asked for any type of compensation,” says McHenry. “However, fans would give us money and tell us to put it towards next year!”

They do not accept candy donations but will take sponsorship donations.

This year they have five themed rooms including a new circus room. Damion McHenry makes most of the mechanical props himself.

McHenry’s favorite decoration is the singing ghosts out front. Damion’s favorite is a mechanical zombie that he made. A fan favorite is the doll room that is said to be super creepy!According to McHenry, the house is pretty scary, and they have had a few people back out. Last year, they added “emergency exits” for those who couldn’t finish the experience.

Face Painting Booth for Children

The Color Guard is also doing a face painting booth for children or anyone who would like their face painted. “We really want to go big with the sponsorships,” says McHenry. “Color Guard works very hard alongside the Katy High SchoolMarching Band and during Winter Guard.”
