Celebrate Texas at a free event this weekend. Central Green Park in LaCenterra will bustle with activities, live music, and more as local families celebrate all that makes Texas…and Katy great.

Katy families love events at Central Green Park.

Celebrate Texas History and Culture

History and culture will come alive tomorrow, December 4, 2021, at the first ever Texas Heritage Festival. The event will be a Central Green Park in LaCenterra from 1:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m.

“This festival will be a great introduction to Texas, Katy and Central Green. It will showcase our rich history and provide some exceptional music, entertainment and fun,” says Yvonne Arceneaux, Willow Fork Drainage District (WFDD) Parks Director.

Katy families can enjoy time period games, activities and crafts by the Star of the Republic Museum. Independence Hall will host discussions on the Convention of 1836 and Texas Independence will provide a ballot casting activity. San Felipe de Austin will have a land grant office display from Stephen F. Austin's Old 300 Colony.

There will be live music and appearances by cowboys and Spanish and Mexican dancers.

Other fun will include armadillo races, kite flying, and more.

As Katy continues to grow with new residential developments, more and more newcomers come to the city. WFDD wants this to be an event to both showcase, celebrate, and welcome.

“I wanted to celebrate the beautiful tapestry that makes Texas the great state that it is,” says Arceneaux.

December at Central Green Park

WFDD’s Central Green Park in LaCenterra is full of excitement this month. Next Friday, December 10, there will be live music with Shawn Sounds from 7:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m.

Central Green Park is known for hosting live musical performances.

On December 11 5:30 p.m.- 6:30 p.m. will be a Bilingual Children’s Play. “This event allows children in the community to star on the Central Green stage,” says Arceneaux.

Aspiring actors wanting to participate in the play should join the rehearsal on December 5 at 4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.

Katy families can celebrate the holidays with a Polar Express Party on December 18 from 4:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. Save those Amazon boxes, as children are encouraged to design their own “box trains” for the event.
