Katy Area Ranks Among Top 10 in U.S.
According to a real estate trend website Opendoor, the Katy area zip code 77494 was ranked the number 3 neighborhood in the U.S. out of a list of 10. Such growth comes with the rise of amenities such as entertainment.
The City of Katy recently shared their Comprehensive Plan 2040, a plan for the decades ahead put together by the public, City Council, staff and a consulting group. Planning for a possible entertainment district was included. This would be in downtown Katy and cover the area where Katy residents enjoy popular establishments like MKT Distillery and No Label Brewery. It’s also where the historic rice dryers are, which are under new ownership and entering phase one in an exciting project.
City of Katy Plans for Entertainment Growth
"The KT Entertainment District is a relatively new opportunity with the emergence of the brewery and distillery uses on the sites of Katy’s historic rice dryer structures, setting up for the potential transformation of a larger area into a near-downtown focal point for both leisure uses and other business activity,” states the Comprehensive Plan on the KT Entertainment District.
“Right now, the Entertainment District is an idea on paper, there will be more public discussion, but the area is primed for a destination area,” says Katy City Council Member and Mayor Pro Tem Chris Harris.
“We feel this would be a huge step in the right direction for us and our neighbors,” says the owner of the Cardiff Rice Dryer. “Hoping this comes to fruition for the protection of the historic rice dryers.”
There is still much to come before that, and Katy is already full of fun. Katy is full of entertainment and fun. Try one of the city’s popular breweries, distilleries, and wineries.
Katy is full of exciting new entertainment projects happening right now.
Historic Katy Dryer Starts Phase One in Big Project
When residents and newcomers alike think of that Katy skyline, they think of the Cardiff Rice Dryer. The Dryer was purchased in 2021 with the intention of restoring the historical landmark and giving back to the community. Phase one’s goal is to open a beer garden, museum, and gift shop this summer.
“Our goal is to create a Historic and family entertainment venue that Katy would be proud of,” says the owner of The Dryer. “Any step towards this goal is something to be celebrated for our team.” They hope for and aim for a groundbreaking ceremony sometime next month.
New In Katy
New to Katy is PopStroke at 23110 Grand Circle Boulevard. PopStroke is a two 18-hole putting course designed by Tiger Woods that is another Katy entertainment venue that includes food and fun. It opened in December.
Opening sometime in March near PopStroke, Andretti Indoor Karting, and Cinemark will be Home Run Dugout (1220 Grand W. Blvd.) This entertainment venue will be like TopGolf for baseball lovers. Enjoy 12 simulated hitting bays, a full-service restaurant and more.
Slick City Action Park announced last month their plan to open their first Texas location this fall at Katy Mills Mall. The indoor slide and air court park will be located between entrances 7 and 8.
From exploring the historic Downtown Katy, to experiencing some of the newer entertainment venues, Katy is full of life and fun for families in all stages. While plans will continue to be proposed and changed, Katy’s growth and excitement continues to grow.
