Katy citizens can take a 10-week course that includes a ride-along with an on-duty, Precint 5 police officer to learn more about how law enforcement protects our community.

Beginning September 28, 2017, Harris County Constable Precinct 5 will give citizens an inside look at what life is like in the typical day of a police officer, and reach out a hand to strengthen the bond between law enforcement and the community they serve through education and hands-on experiences.
There will be lectures on how officers are trained to handle critical situations, practical, hands-on use of a Glock 9mm and AR-15, and a ride-along with an on-duty deputy.
This is a 10-week course that runs from September 28 through December 14, 2017 and is held one night a week at the command station located at 17423 Katy Fwy.
To attend, you must meet the following criteria:
You must be 20 years of age or older. Must have a valid driver’s license or ID. Must not have been convicted of a Class B or above within the last 5 years. Must not have been convicted of any Felony offense. Must not have an open warrant. Must agree to and pass a background check through NCIC/TCIC. Must have all academy paperwork signed and turned in prior to attending class.
Additionally you agree to make a commitment to attend each of the 10 scheduled classes. (Unforeseen issues and emergencies are understood but due to demand and limited seating please make every effort to attend each class.)

WEEK ONE: INTRODUCTION TO LAW ENFORCEMENT WEEK TWO: OFFICER SAFETY AND PATROL PROCEDURES WEEK THREE: USE OF FORCE AND MECHANICS OF ARREST WEEK FOUR: CALLS FOR SERVICE / FIREARMS TRAINING SIMULATOR WEEK FIVE: TRAFFIC STOPS / DWI / K-9 DEMONSTRATION WEEK SIX: LAW ENFORCEMENT AND THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM WEEK SEVEN: LIVE FIRE RANGE (9mm Glock & AR-15) WEEK EIGHT: EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operation Course) WEEK NINE: RIDE ALONG WEEK TEN: GRADUATION
Seating is limited to 25 per class. *PLEASE NOTE - by submitting a registration form you acknowledge that a background check will be conducted prior to enrollment in the academy.
