As Katy families plan out Thanksgiving feasts and their Black Friday shopping lists, local non-profits are setting their Giving Tuesday goals. An anonymous benefactor reached out to Citizens for Animal Protection (CAP) promising to match up to $150,000 of donations made on Giving Tuesday.

As Katy families prepare to give thanks this holidays season, local non-profits are setting goals for Giving Tuesday. According to local sources, public interest in non-profits is down as much as 10%. Any amount donated is appreciated. However, someone stepped up big to make a substantial difference to Citizens for Animal Protection (CAP.)

An anonymous benefactor will match donations to CAP up to $150,000 on Giving Tuesday, which is December 2, 2024. Giving Tuesday falls after Black Friday and Cyber Monday as a way to remind the public of the reason for the season after they’ve found great deals shopping for loved ones.

"Every day, we witness the transformative power of compassion in action,” says CAP Executive Director Sandi Mercado. “Your support on Giving Tuesday isn't just a donation – it's a lifeline for animals in need. Each contribution enhances our ability to provide shelter and medical care for vulnerable pets until we can find them a forever family."

CAP has cared for and adopted out 2,939 animals from January 2024-October 2024. They have been managing fostering, adopting, offering educational services and more since 1972. They also provide the CAP Cornelius Clinic for low cost care to help the community and the animals loved by so many.

“This will make a huge impact on how we do business,” says CAP Marketing Coordinator Freddy Cruz. “This helps us to give these dogs and cats the best life.” Such a donation will also allow CAP to provide for more animals. While giving is down from previous years, the need is extremely high with many local animal shelters being near or exceeding capacity.

Any Amount Helps

“We love our high dollar donors,” adds Cruz, “but you don’t have to give $150k. Smaller amounts can make a huge difference.”

Intake of a dog/cat:

General Health Exam- $30+

Vaccinations- $45+

Tests (Heartworm)- $25

Deworming, Defleaing- $20

Spay/Neutering- $115

Microchip- $30

It costs $25 to feed one animal each week. Just a simple donation enough to cover that cost is a help.

CAP also has wish lists on Amazon and Chewy.

A Call for Volunteers

Like other shelters, CAP always needs volunteers. They have individual and group volunteering opportunities. This non-profit is always having events and projects where the community can give back and just maybe find a “furever” friend. Visit their website for upcoming events and information.
