A Katy ISD teacher has been charged with the theft of $5,000 out of Paetow High School’s dance team booster fund. The teacher is no longer employed by the district.
Tyshonda Okere is accused of and now has been charged for the theft of over $5,000 out of the Paetow High School dance team’s spirit booster fund. According to the school’s website, Okere was the chair of the English Department.
“The individual is no longer in the classroom following internal and police investigations,” says a spokesperson for Katy ISD.
It is unclear how the stolen funds will impact the students and programs they were meant to support.
According to police the school’s booster club signed off on giving Okere more than $5,000 in a personal check with the understanding that she would use it to pay off bills for the Silver Strutters dance team.
Instead she deposited the check into her account as well as another account opened by her husband.
