Astros Mural in LaCenterra Features Take it Back Theme

Katy’s LaCenterra now proudly displays a special tribute to the Houston Astros - a 20'x20' mural commemorating the Astros’ game 4 World Series win over the Nationals Saturday night.

Diana Elkins, Marketing Director at LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch, said the Astros organization personally selected all of the mural locations. The LaCenterra mural, painted by Houston artist Erik Del Rio, is located in the breezeway behind Sephora by the West garage.

"The community response has been extremely positive," says Elkins. "There was a consistent stream of people and at times a line to take photos of the mural all day on Sunday. Fans and families came from all over to show their support for the team, the art, and the artist."

Astros third baseman Alex Bregman takes center stage on the mural. Bregman, on track to win the American League MVP award, added to his stats during game 4 of the World Series. With bases loaded, Bregman unleashed a monster homerun to stun the Nationals fans. Bregman’s grand slam extended the Astros lead to 8-1, which would be the final score of that game.

After losing the first two games of the series at home, the Astros fought hard on their quest to “Take it Back.” Their revolving door of homerun hitters propelled the team past the Nationals in all three games on their home turf.

Local Artist Paints Mural

Del Rio said he was asked to paint one the murals during the playoffs.

"I hadn’t the slightest clue I’d be doing a World Series piece, especially for such a massive play."

Del Rio admits to being an Astros fan, and was very excited to paint Bregman, although he has another favorite player.

"I’m a die-hard (Jose) Altuve fan," says Del Rio. "I love the team but Altuve is the iron giant in my book."

Del Rio was on standby at LaCenterra in Cinco Ranch, watching game 4 on his phone. He got a call after Bregman's grand slam. He finished painting early Sunday morning.

"I already knew what they were gonna say" says Del Rio. "They asked if I could paint Bregman. They sent over the photo they liked the most, the Astros agreed and I did the honors."
