Three teenagers were injured after shots were fired in the Katy Mills Mall parking lot this weekend. Six teenagers were detained.
Shooting at Katy Mills Mall Parking Lot
Around 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2023, Katy Police Department responded to reports of gunfire coming from the Katy Mills Mall parking lot. Upon arrival they found three injured teenagers between the ages of 14-17 that had been shot after what is believed to be an altercation between minors.
3 Injured, 6 Detained
The three injured teens were taken to the hospital, one was sent by helicopter in critical condition with gunshot wounds in the leg and groin. That teen has now been listed in stable condition. All of those injured are expected to recover.
According to police, the shooting occurred between two groups of juveniles and happened just outside “neighborhood 5.” One of the injured teens ran in Bass Pro Shop. The mall was close to closing and was fully evacuated.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office, DPS, and the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office assisted Katy Police in the response.
No other injuries were reported. Many shoppers reported being afraid when they heard the shots. Many had to wait for their vehicles as they were roped off by police during the investigation.
The cause of the shooting is still under investigation.
