Happy National Nachos Day, Katy! Many local restaurants offer nachos and have put their own tasty spin on the original recipe. What's your favorite - topped with beef fajita meat or oysters, served mild or spicy with jalapeno peppers? Read on to find your ideal combination of toppings to celebrate this special occasion.
Nacho’s Special Dish
The origin of the nachos dates back to 1943 in the Mexican border town of Piedra Negras. Ignacio Anaya was working as a maitre’d at the Victory Club. When guests arrived and he was unable to locate the chef, Anaya quickly gathered ingredients. He cut tortillas into triangles, and then topped them with cheese and sliced jalapeno peppers. Anaya used his nickname to call his dish “Nachos Especiales.”
