Great Summer Reading!

Children ages four to 13 can work on their summer reading, improve reading fluency, and show some love to homeless cats this Saturday, June 1. Fort Bend Pets Alive! returns for a third year with their popular "Meow Book Buddies" event. The event is at Half Priced Books at 3202 Highway 6 in Sugar Land from 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm.

Half-off Cat Adoption

Participants at the event have the option of saving 50% if they choose a cat to adopt and take home. According to Fort Bent Pets Alive! there are too many cats in local shelters, and cats have a much harder time in shelters than dogs do.

Is it Time for a Cat?

Thinking of adding to your family this summer? Talk about the idea of getting a cat and make sure the entire family agrees. Adding a new pet to the family dynamics is a big responsibility, but the summer is a great time to adjust and take the opportunity to stress responsibility to children.

You'll need the right supplies if you do decide to adopt a cat. Here's a list to help you prepare:

Be Prepared

  • A litter box and box of litter.

  • Food and water bowls (you'll want to find out what food he/she currently eats)

  • A sturdy, rough-textured scratching post. Give your new family member something to scratch so it won't be your couch!

  • Safe, stimulating toys. Hint: If you give the cat toys that make noises, you'll know when it's playing.

  • A bed with soft bedding or a blanket.

  • Grooming tools including a brush and nail clipper.
