This year 273 tanks were nominated for the 2018 Tank of the Year Contest hosted by Tnemec, a leading manufacturer of coatings and coating systems for exterior environments, and today the company announced Katy as the 2018 winner!
The contest looks for innovative and creative uses of its coatings on water tanks with an annual Tank of the Year contest. Each year, tanks of all varieties from across the U.S. and Canada are narrowed down to determine the most impressive coatings projects in the water tank industry.
Katy Beats Out 273 Nominees
This company chose Katy's two geese themed tanks as the winner of the 2018 Tank of the Year Contest. One of the water tanks is located by Katy Mills and the other is on Franz Road by the Police Department and Katy City Park.
According to Tnemec, Katy's water tanks were selected by a panel of water tank enthusiasts based on criteria such as artistic value, significance of the tank to the community, and challenges encountered during the project.
Represents Katy's History
According to Katy Councilmember Chris Harris, the City of Katy is ecstatic by today's announcement. "The murals represent the history of Katy, as the rice capital of the world, and the geese that frequented the area," he says. "Having the murals gives the city a chance to tell our history of a small town to new residents."
Harris says the city had the murals designed several years ago, and plans are in place to complete similar mural designs as other water towers are renovated. (Not including the Katy Tiger tower downtown). "Every hometown needs prideful water towers, and Old Katy loves our history. We cannot wait to do the next one!"
