Mary Jo Peckham Park's large lake offers fishers the opportunity to land up to five bass and rainbow trout per day, along with an unlimited amount of catfish for free. Take the kids for an outdoor fishing experience in a down home, quiet setting. There is also fishing at Cinco Lake for Cinco Ranch residents.

Picnic and lawn chairs welcome. Central Green is a family fun environment with a wide variety of events from Tai Chi, home school classes, movies, festivals, concerts and more! All events at Central Green are FREE to the public and made possible by the Willow Fork Drainage District. Kids love running, playing, and dancing on the grass. Here are a few of their February events.

Mardi Gras February 2, 2019 2 pm

Celebrate a free Mardi Gras event with the whole family.

Live Music February 9, 2019

Identity Crisis: Local top shelf musicians Chip, Mark, Albert, Ross, and Jeff, play the classic hits you love!

Live Music February 15, 2019 7 pm Picnic and lawn chairs welcome to view the live concert performance to be announced.

 

Grand Pkwy. and Cinco Ranch Blvd.

Opened in 2016, this 32-acre park features lawns, trails, a lake, a playground, a boardwalk and more. The bike ride trail starts at the baseball fields of Freedom Park on Westheimer Parkway and continues along the bayou trails for 6.5 miles to Gaston Road. The trails include a mixture of concrete paved trails and dirt trails. Total round trip is 13.0 miles.

Challenge Island Family Night: Put your STEM skills to the test with a night of fun, hands-on activities for all ages! Our friends from Challenge Island are bringing challenges for kids to learn creativity & critical thinking. Plus, balloon animals & face painting from Sweet Honey the Clown!

Tuesday, February 12 at Chick-fil-A Mason Road

Valentine’s Science Lab: Grab your lab coat and join us for a night of Valentine’s themed experiments! Make pink, glitter slime to take home, use lemons and chemical reactions to make pink & red volcano eruptions, and more. Plus, balloon animals and face painting by Sweet Honey the Clown.

Monday, February 18 at Chick-fil-A Katy Green

Remembering Our Military Katy Veterans Memorial Museum: This is a first-class military exhibit encompassing every foreign conflict involving the U.S. It is open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4 pm and admission is free.

 

Katy Budget Books 2450 Fry Rd.

Aside from selling novels and story books, the bookstore holds fun events for all ages. Book clubs take place the third Tuesday of every month. Mommy Book Club meet every other week, discussing one book in portions every month. You don't have to worry about bringing your kids, because everyone will!

 

8. Preschool and Toddler Story Time Maud Smith Marks Branch Library 1815 Westgreen Blvd.

Preschool Storytime is a year-round program. Recommended for children 3-6 years old. Stories, songs, finger plays and occasional crafts every Thursday at 10:30 am -11:15 am. Toddler Story time is a year-round program. Recommended for children 18 months to 3 years old every Tuesday at 10:30 am-11:15 am.

 

Katy Heritage Society 5990 George Bush Dr.

Take a walk down memory lane through the preservation of antique Katy landmarks. The historic homes in Katy Heritage Park are free to visit the first weekend of every month.

 

5418 Franz Rd.

Covering 14 acres, this off-leash dog park has grassy fields and fountains and hosts annual events. Children ages 10 through 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Walking path with a distance of 1,723 feet, park specific wading pool for dogs, custom dog showers and fountains accessible for both the four legged friend and their owners.

 

KATY INSIDER TIP: TRY A FREE CLASS

Many Katy area martial arts, dance, and gymnastics centers will allow kids to try a free class to see how they like it before you sign up. Call and ask if your child can try a class and then take him to various places to see which activity and center he or she enjoys the most!
